Direct to Film FAQs
-
How do DTF transfers work?
Direct-to-Film (DTF) transfers involve printing a design in reverse onto a special film using both color and white ink layers. While the ink is still wet, a hot-melt adhesive powder is applied, then cured with heat to activate the adhesive. The film is then placed onto the substrate and pressed with heat and pressure to bond the design. After cooling, the film is peeled away, leaving a vibrant, durable print.
-
What are some advantages of DTF?
Direct-To-Film transfers are durable, versatile, detailed, offer a vast array of vibrant colors, and can be stored for future applications. They’re also fast, flexible, efficient, cost-effective, and can be applied to curved surfaces.
-
How do DTF transfers compare to screen printing?
DTF transfers are a solid and dependable all-around method that offers great color, fabric flexibility, and small-run convenience — ideal for custom apparel or brands offering on-demand designs or small to medium quantities, while screen printing is at times attractive for larger orders that enable more setup time and labor to be amortized over the full length of the run.
